It’s no secret that Ukraine has been struggling with the recent influx of Russian troops, and now they’re fighting back! On April 17, Ukrainian officials announced that they would be fighting to the last man in Mariupol, refusing to give up their territory to Russia.
Let’s find out with me this latest Russia Ukraine news and some ways to pray for Ukraine 2022.
Hostilities Between Russia and Ukraine on April 17
Decisive Moment – Pray For Ukraine 2022
In the decisive moment of the Russia Ukraine battle, Russia demanded that the Ukrainian Army and the mercenaries that have joined them surrender. The Russian Defense Ministry says that there are about 400 foreign mercenaries entrenched inside the Azovstal metallurgical plant along with Ukrainian soldiers. There has been no comment from Kyiv yet concerning Russian information about the mercenaries.
Moscow called on this army to lay down its weapons and surrender if it wanted to save its life. The deadline given by Russia is 5:00 p.m. on April 17.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Shmyhal said that “Our armed forces are still there, the soldiers are still there. They will fight until their last breath,” after the deadline expired.
The Ukrainian parliament speaker denied Russian allegations that Kyiv ordered its troops who took part in the fighting in the Donbass region to shoot “on the spot” anyone who wanted to surrender, local media reported on Wednesday.
Denis Shmyhal said Kyiv was trying to find a diplomatic solution to end the Russia Ukraine fighting. “But if the Russians do not like to negotiate, we will fight till the last minute. We will not surrender,” he said.
Moscow had earlier accused Kyiv of instigating a new escalation in eastern Ukraine and demanded that it cease hostilities after a series of clashes with pro-Russian separatists in Donbass, as well as accusations that Russia was sending troops and weapons there.
Ukraine Declares Not To Surrender
Officials in Mariupol, Ukraine announced that Ukrainian forces there will continue to defend the city, despite Russia’s ultimatum to lay down their arms.
According to CNN, Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, said that the defense forces were still strong at the line of their territory. He also went on to say that a lot of regular people were being killed in the process, and even some important port areas had been hit.
The Russian government responded to this by saying that they were going to destroy all Ukrainian resistance unless they lay down their arms. That would be a pretty big blow to Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself, so it’s no wonder that President Volodymyr Zelensky has threatened to cut off any negotiations with Russia to end the Russia Ukraine war if they follow through on this plan.
Support From International Countries
US Weapons To Ukraine
The United States has begun shipping weapons to Ukraine, in a bid to assuage Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s concerns regarding Russia’s military operation in the country.
As Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine entered its 53rd day, the White House also confirmed that military aid shipments had begun to Ukraine. The US will first provide heavy weapons such as helicopters, howitzers, and armored vehicles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged his US counterpart Joe Biden to come to Kyiv, while insisting he will not “cede the east” to end hostilities with Russia.
According to Reuters, President Biden is considering sending Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin or Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Ukraine in an effort to renew peace talks between Russia Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dymtro Kuleba said there had not been any diplomatic communication between Russia and Ukraine recently, after President Vladimir Putin said that negotiations between the two countries had reached an impasse.
Mr. Kuleba said that the foreign ministers of the two countries have not had a formal dialogue in a long time, and it is possible that there are obstacles to Russia Ukraine negotiations.
According to Bloomberg News, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has arrived in Kyiv to revive peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The outcome of this new attempt at reconciliation is unclear, and neither Russia nor Ukraine have commented on the matter.
Sanctions Against Russia Come Into Effect
The sanctions against Russia, imposed by the European Union (EU), came into effect on April 17. The sanctions are to punish Russia for its military campaign in Ukraine.
The Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure announced on April 17 that Russian-flagged ships are officially banned from entering Estonian ports. In addition, EU ports do not welcome warships that change from Russian flags to other countries’ flags after February 24 when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the operation to be carried out.
For its part, Bulgaria confirmed that the ban on Russian ships officially took effect from April 17.
The European Union on Thursday called for new sanctions against Russia over an escalation in the conflict with Ukraine, which it said was “causing serious concern”.
On the same day, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen asked member countries to quickly supply weapons and equipment to Ukraine. She suggested that the next round of EU sanctions should target Sberbank, Russia’s largest banking system, and take new measures on Russian oil and gas.
Here’s A List Of T-shirts You Can Wear To Pray For Ukraine In 2022
“What can you do to help?”
This is the question on everyone’s mind. Let’s be honest: there are things going on in the world that we can’t control and can’t even really understand, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make a difference. You may be thinking “But I don’t have any power! I’m just one person!”
That may be true, but you have the power to spark change. As one of our favorite activists once said, “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” And supporting Ukraine is absolutely right.
When people all over the world turn their eyes to Ukraine, they are looking for hope—something that says we care and we want to make a difference. That’s why we’ve put together an exclusive collection of Ukraine shirts: to help raise awareness and make people take notice of what’s happening in Ukraine. It doesn’t matter what language you speak or where you were born: it matters that we stand together and pray for Ukraine through this trying time.
