6 TV Shows and Movies like Bridgerton 2nd Season now on Netflix

Pride & Prejudice (2005)

One of the most popular shows on Netflix right now is Bridgerton. If you like Bridgerton, you should definitely watch Pride & Prejudice! Like Bridgeton, it’s an adaptation of a book, but this time Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Jane Austen was an English novelist who wrote romance stories in the early nineteenth century. It may sound boring, but that’s not true at all! Jane Austen’s books are exciting and funny. And there is also some drama. Maybe that’s why they are so popular with so many people!

But also because it feels familiar. Jane Austen’s novels are not only set at the same time as Bridgerton, but also live in the same social world. Everyone is interested in other people’s private lives: who will marry whom and how much money do they have?

Outlander (Seasons 1-3)

Outlander, a historical drama series, is currently in its third season. If you are looking for a romantic, dramatic adventure with a bit of sci-fi twist, we recommend Outlander.

The film begins in Scotland, shortly after the Second World War. The main character of the show is nurse Claire Randall, who is on vacation with her husband, Frank. However, she accidentally travels through time back to the 18th century. There, she becomes entangled in a dramatic romance with Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan), a rebellious Highlander. Adventure will soon come as well as Claire’s past life.

Lady J

Bridgerton Series, Shonda Rhimes’ wildly successful new period drama on Netflix, is just the latest in a long line of period dramas with a modern twist. In this case, the show’s take on 18th-century England is unique because it focuses on the interior lives of women at a time when they were held back by society.

However, there are many other shows that also capture the interiority of past eras and their characters. One good example is Lady J, which was written during roughly the same period as Bridgerton Series and focuses on another character shunned by society—this time a woman who turns her back on her Marquis lover and devises an elaborate plot for revenge.

The work of this period is set slightly earlier than Bridgerton, in 18th-century France. However, both dramas are deeply concerned with the interior and exterior of social relationships.

In Lady J, a woman shunned by her Marquis lover devises an elaborate plot for revenge.

The Princess Switch

If you’re looking for a good holiday film, The Princess Switch is the perfect choice!

This movie follows the same formula as most Disney movies: a girl who’s never been kissed gets magically transported to another world where she meets the love of her life. Although this movie is not a historical drama, it depicts all the glamorous lives of princes, princesses and Christmas parties in castles. When I was watching this movie, I was feeling like I’m in a fairy tale!

Vanessa Hudgens plays both Stacy DeNovo and Lady Margaret Delacourt: a talented baker and a betrothed duchess, who happen to look almost identical. The couple agrees to swap lives for a few days, just to see what it’s like. Of course, it didn’t take long for love to blossom.

The only thing that bothered me about this movie is inconsistency: there were some problems with continuity because, at one point, Margaret had curly hair and then suddenly straight hair at another. Also the story line was overly predictable which makes it kind of boring.

Anne with an E

If you haven’t watched Anne with an E yet, then you’re missing out on a masterpiece.

The Netflix original series is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 novel, Anne of Green Gables. The series takes place in the late 19th century and follows the story of an orphan girl named Anne who is adopted by a farming family.

Despite being critically acclaimed for its handling of topics such as prejudice, race, gender and other social issues that are still relevant today, Netflix controversially canceled the show after three seasons.

Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker

The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker is an annual dance performance organized by renowned choreographer Debbie Allen. This reinterpretation of classical ballet aims to showcase the great talent of dancers of color, and features young dancers from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, as well as professionals and celebrities such as Phylicia Rashad and Vanessa Williams.

The Shondaland documentary takes a behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for the show, and the incredible dancers and team that made it happen. The dancers are all young, Black women who have been training at the Dance Academy since they were small children. They have all dreamed of performing in this show, and this is a rare opportunity to see their hard work and talent on display.
